I want breakfast that is both a break, and fast.

Breakfast. The most important meal of the day. But what about those times when you just really are in a rush and have absolutely NO time to make something?

Slept in.

Pressed snooze too many times.

Was singing for way too long in the shower.

Woke up but thought for some reason it was Saturday and so you just laid in bed for no good reason, thinking about how wonderful your Saturday was going to be...but, it was a tuesday. **begin frantic rushing around**

All of these have happened to me. It sucks. I love the morning! Not because I like the darkness or the cold or the fact that the world is mostly asleep, but because it's when my whole day is ahead of me. I like to savour it. So how can I do this?

Here are some tips from one student/busy person to the next:

1. "Hannah, just get up". Yes I have told myself this in the morning. Sometimes it's a struggle but... I will need to get up eventually, so why wait?

2. If I am having trouble getting out of bed in the morning I just think about what is waiting for me as soon as I get out: The gym. Breakfast. Friends. Family. Relaxation in the morning. Obedience to my alarm is what gives me the time to relax in the morning.

3. Delay-brew automatic coffee brew. I LOVE THIS FEATURE. I set it the night before for 6:50, fill my machine with grounds and water and then when I get home from the gym at 7 (or get up then :)), there is the fresh aroma of coffee filling my apartment and that is one less thing that I have to do before getting ready for the day!

4. Gather books and such, the night before. Having all your stuff all ready to go in the morning is one less thing to worry about and again, gives you just a few less 'hastle' points in the morning!

5. Pick out your clothes the night before. This sounds lame. Don't worry- I am aware of that. BUT, sometimes not having to spend time picking out clothes that make you feel good/presentable to the public, amidst the chaos of the morning, is a greattt thing.

6. Have quick breakfasts ready that are healthy. These will make you feel less tired and give you a great boost at the beginning of your day. Healthy does not always mean 'light'. I like to eat a hearty breakfast, but healthy. I ain't about being hungry when I'm sitting in class, if I can avoid it. Just choose the right foods:
- toast and poached eggs
- oatmeal (not prepackaged)
- smoothie
- healthy loaves/muffins (yes, there is such a thing!)

etc.

Try this. It takes SO LITTLE TIME. Literally just throw everything into a bowl and then bake.
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 1 hour
Effort: SO LITTLE.

Bam.

Done.

Breakfast for a week.

Ultimate Breakfast Loaf

3 ripe, mashed banana
½ Zucchini
1 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup oats
handful of raisins
3 chopped, dried figs
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 tbsp bran
brown sugar over top before bake (to taste)

1. Pre-heat the oven at 350F.
2. Mash the banana well into a bowl.
3. Use a julienne peeler (or slice thinly) to slice the zucchini. Mix with the mashed banana and set aside.
4. Combine flour, oats, raisins, dried figs, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and bran together in a large mixing bowl.
5. Add the zucchini and banana mixture to the dry ingredients and mix well.
6. Fold this into a greased loaf pan (or use parchment paper)
7. Sprinkle brown sugar over top of the loaf

8. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes  or until toothpick inserted comes out clean
9. Cool and then enjoy!

Studying while baking? BEST.
